The Chinese brand is said to be working on a concept of a “clamshell” folding smartphone.
Folding smartphones are slowly but surely starting to take hold in the landscape. Samsung, a key player in the field, is preparing for example to unveil two new devices of this type during its Galaxy Unpacked which should be held in August. As for other manufacturers, like Xiaomi, they continue to work hard to launch flexible screen smartphones.
This is how after unveiling its Mi Mix Fold, its very first Galaxy Z Fold 2-style folding smartphone, the Chinese giant seems to be considering the idea of taking over the concept of Samsung’s other flagship folding device. , the Galaxy Z Flip. The device can be seen in detail in a patent unearthed by 91mobiles, and registered by the mark with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Very close to the Galaxy Z Flip
Like the Galaxy Z Flip or the Motorola RAZR, Xiaomi’s folding smartphone would be based on a flexible screen that would fold up on itself horizontally, like an old flip phone.
A second screen, located near the photo sensors, would be intended to display notifications and certain useful information when the smartphone is closed. This is not completely new for the manufacturer, which had already placed a second external screen of this type on its latest Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip also has an external mini-display, and this could even be enlarged further in the second version of the device, due this summer.
Patent requires, Xiaomi does not specify the characteristics of the smartphone, and we do not know if the manufacturer will deign to present it one day. Still, the launch of such a device wouldn’t seem so surprising, when you see the similarities between the Mi Mix Fold and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2.
