“I am thinking of buying myself a Acura RDX in 2022 and I wonder if the manufacturer has planned a Type S version. If so, I am ready to wait for it to have more performance. “
It’s been a while since Acura mentioned that all of its models will eventually get a higher performance Type S version. We saw it with the recently unveiled TLX and MDX which both have a Type S version. The Acura TLX 2021 is also the first car to return with this badge, which made the reputation of the brand more than 10 years ago.
There is therefore reason to believe that the RDX will receive a Type S version in the future. But when? That is the question, and it remains unanswered. Honda, and by extension Acura, has never been a very talkative company about its intentions, and we don’t know anything about the RDX. Logically, such a version should arrive sooner rather than later, considering that the RDX is currently the brand’s best-selling product. This Type S would allow the RDX to compete on equal terms with well-established vehicles such as the Audi SQ5, the BMX X3 M40i or the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43.
And let’s be clear: the vehicle is capable of taking it. From the start, the third-generation RDX showed its competence, both in terms of design and chassis strength. And Acura also has mechanics that would make the RDX Type S a great beast. I have in mind the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that will be under the hood of the TLX and MDX Type S. With 355 horsepower and a ten-speed automatic transmission, it would give the RDX a pleasing performance.
Until any information is revealed about the coming of this model, is choosing a regular RDX a bad decision? Certainly not, this is one of the best products in the segment, able to compete on equal terms with the Germans offered by Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. We don’t yet officially know if it will receive any upgrades in 2022, though, which should be the case since it will be in its fourth year on the market.
Also, you may be disappointed if Acura ever announces the RDX Type S a few weeks after you have taken possession of your new vehicle. It’s up to you to see how your patience can hold out!
