The “small” Model 3 remains very efficient
Tesla’s strength obviously remains the electrical component, with controlled consumption, good performance and record autonomy. Despite its small battery of 57 kWh (barely more than a Zoe), the SR + model nevertheless claims 448km WLTP, or about 300Km on the highway, which remains quite sufficient, including on long journeys, the SuperCharger network helping.
The disappointing “Chinese versions”?
Some Model 3 SR + owners ” Chinese “ of 2020 have expressed some fears in recent weeks : their CATL batteries (LFP – lithium-iron-phosphate), whose production and extraction costs seem more interesting, indeed seem to be still running in – yet it is on this technology that Apple would bet for its electric car. Charging power struggles to exceed 90kW and even preheating the battery, some still find the time long compared to higher models, especially as the autonomy seems a little below the promises of the manufacturer. A priori, an update should arrive in February and allow the load to 170kW promised in a more systematic way, at least that’s what the support has given them, if we are to believe the various testimonies.
The “Chinese Model 3” apparently still need a little break-in …
Model 3 SR + 2021: the right plan at all levels
But what about our Model 3 SR + 2021? Good news, as Tesla has confirmed to us, these are currently coming exclusively from the Fremont plant in the USA. They therefore carry the usual lithium-ion battery pack and therefore do not suffer from these small limitations observed here and there. Remember that the Model 3 Autonomie Standard Plus (SR +) can recharge up to 170 kW, the Model 3 Long Range and Performance models up to 250 kW (peak). Obviously, these powers are not maintained during the entire charge and depend a lot on the preheating of the battery and the percentage of charge.
We recognize the Model 3 SR + 2021 by its chrome ” blackened “ especially on the handles …
(Almost) premium connectivity
In terms of connectivity, the SR + versions offer the same system as the higher versions but do not benefit from premium connectivity for a year, with satellite maps with real-time traffic visualization, music and multimedia streaming in the vehicle, more frequent remote updates via the cellular network and Internet browser – obviously it it is still possible to subscribe to it at any time. All 2021 models, however, offer the new console, with dual wireless charger and a more modern coating, less prone to fingerprints.
In matter of” autopilot “, nothing changes compared to higher models: semi-autonomous driving remains free, but limited. To benefit from the ” Fully autonomous driving capability “ (with automated driving from the entry lane to the motorway exit, including on interchanges and to overtake slower vehicles, automated lane changes on the motorway, parallel and row parking, exit automatic seat, recognition and reaction to traffic lights and stop signs) it will have to pay an additional 7,500 € -which reduces the bonus otherwise. In short, we do not recommend this option, which should come after the fact as a subscription … or that you can take at any time after purchase.
On the other hand, impossible to benefit from the high-end audio system with 14 speakers, 1 subwoofer, 2 amplifiers and immersive sound, it will be necessary to be satisfied with the ” Audio system with immersive sound “ much less complete.
All the reasons to crack?
This Model 3 is not yet at the level of small city cars (€ 32,000 for a Zoé or an e208 excluding bonus), On the other hand, it competes very well with the Kona / eNiro / e2008 (around € 40,000 for a similar or even much lower range at Peugeot) whose charging network and software part are light years away from Tesla.
The question is ” less quickly answered “ if you hesitated with a Large Autonomy model, the price of which is around € 50,000, a price difference that is sometimes difficult to justify for some additional equipment and kWh. Only big rollers, those who need four-wheel drive or the aristocrats of the subwoofer will put the 13 to 15,000 € extra without thinking too much.
2021 will also see the arrival of many models, and it has already started : Volkswagen ID.3 is offered at € 36,390 excluding bonus with a neighboring battery (58 kWh), future Skoda Enyaqs start at € 35,250 with a 50 kWh battery (a bit tight), the Polestar 2 ( ~ € 40,000 excluding bonus) or the Aiways U5 (~ € 40,000).
A Tesla Model 3 SR + (2021) at € 356 / month + € 3000 contribution?
Finally, Tesla offers several means of financing the car, the most interesting certainly being the LOA: over 36 months with 10,000 km per year and € 11,000 of contribution (from which you can withdraw € 7,000 as a bonus, or only € 4,000), it amounts to € 356 per month – from which you can withdraw the usual gasoline costs on a thermal vehicle, around € 150 . Given the progress on batteries and the regular price drops, this formula allows switching to a more recent model after 3 years without spending too much at once, even if the bonus amount will certainly drop by then.
Small bonus, if you wish get 1500Km offered on SuperChargers, you can use our referral link (We don’t earn money on it, but it’s always taken …).
