According to a new report, Huawei May release the first HarmonyOS powered device by the end of the year. One of the main reasons for this is the expiration of the temporary license that allowed him to access certain Google services.
Is Huawei about to embrace radical change? Having been blacklisted by the US Department of Commerce in May of last year, the firm is no longer authorized to offer its products and services in the United States.
Worse yet, it was cut off from its American suppliers. The administration still granted him a temporary license to continue to access certain services such as Android updates. But given that said license expired last week, the Chinese tech giant is currently at an important turning point.
According to Ma Jihua, a renowned Chinese analyst, Huawei has nothing to lose and may even formalize the first device powered by its home OS before the end of the year.
No Google services on the Mate 40
“Huawei has been developing its own version of Android since the launch of the Mate 20 line. The basic structures of EMUI are changing to be radically different from those of Google. As the system does not depend on Android, it is not a big deal whether Huawei devices receive updates or not ", Jihua said.
Global Times claims to have recently received information which seems to confirm this determination of the Chinese manufacturer to move forward despite US sanctions. According to one of the media's sources, Huawei's Mate 40 series, due to launch in September, will not be equipped with Google services. Certainly, this could affect sales abroad, but not those in the Chinese market where the manufacturer reigns supreme.
Soon a first device under harmonyOS
The company should be able to launch the first smartphone equipped with harmonyOS by the end of 2020 thanks to the acceleration of the development of this operating system, reports Global Times. In addition, the introduction of the OS should be supported by the deployment of 5G networks and the rise of the Internet of Things.
“Huawei is well prepared in terms of operating system technology. The potential applications of HarmonyOS in the Internet of Things are enormous. The only problem is how to cultivate an ecosystem quickly ”, concluded Ma Jihua.
