United States: the country with more $ 1 million new cars than less than 20,000 on the market

In the USA, the cost of new cars keeps increasing (on average $ 36,000). Suddenly, the list of affordable cars has drastically reduced while at the other end of the market, the number of cars is only increasing.

Incredible but true ! So there are more cars over $ 1 million on the American market than cars under $ 20,000. To find out how noticeable these trends are on both sides of the market, our American colleagues at CarBuzz put together a list of new cars for sale in the United States and split it in two. On the one hand, vehicles under $ 20,000, on the other those over $ 1 million. While this is not an exhaustive list, they counted around 18 vehicles available under $ 20,000 versus at least 32 over a million.

Among the cheapest cars on the market are: the Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Ford EcoSport, Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Veloster, Hyundai Venue, Kia Forte, Kia Rio, Kia Soul, Mitsubishi Mirage, Nissan Kicks, Nissan Sentra, Nissan Versa, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Jetta. Of these, the Spark (the cheapest car in the US, priced from $ 14,395) faces an uncertain future, and the Fit, Mirage, and Yaris will soon be taken off that list.

And the most expensive?

At the other end of the list, the number of supercars and hypercars that cost more than a million dollars – if not several million – continues to grow. Some are from well-known car manufacturers, while others are from newer brands that you might not even have heard of.

The list of these models is quite long and it is quite possible that we have missed a few. The seven-figure list therefore includes the Apolla Intensa Emozione, Aston Martin DB4 Zagato, Aston Martin V12 Speedster, Aston Martin Valkyrie, Aston Martin Vantage Zagato, Bentley Bacalar, Bugatti Centodieci, Bugatti Chiron, Bugatti Divo, Czinger 21C, Delage D12, Ferrari SP1 and SP2, Glickenhaus 007, Gordon Murray T.50, Hispano Suiza, Hongqi S9, Italdesign Nissan GT-R50, Koenigsegg Gemera, Koenigsegg Jesko, Koenigsegg Regera, Lamborghini Essenza SCV12, Lamborghini Sian, Lotus Evija, McLaren Elva, McLaren Speedtail, Mercedes-AMG One, Pagani Huayra, Pinifarina Battista, Rimac C_Two, SSC Tuatura, Zenvo TSR-S.

Logical enough?

Obviously, market trends dictate the type of cars produced by automakers. With consumers spending an average of almost $ 40,000 in the US on their new vehicles – usually an SUV or pickup – it doesn't necessarily make sense to build low-cost compacts that cost less than $ 20,000.

Conversely, if the makers of sports cars and other exclusive vehicles notice that their customers who buy luxury cars would be willing to spend even more on a rarer vehicle, they will respond to this market as well. This little statistic simply shows that the US auto market is changing dramatically with fewer options at the low end and many more options at the top.
