The most French of Japanese celebrates its twenty years of career with this fourth generation, marketed next summer.
A MORE ATHLETIC PHYSICS Over the years, little Toyota has gained muscle. Shorter, wider and lower, the new Yaris (3.94 meters) exhibits generous curves, a ribbed bonnet and a carved stern. With a wheelbase revised upward, it intelligently uses its volumes to optimize its interior space. On board, the quality of finish goes upmarket and the driver now has a head-up display to stay on the road eyes and a large central touch screen to access the navigation and the infotainment system .
ENHANCED HYBRIDIZATION A pioneer of hybrid city cars, the Yaris intends to remain the leader in this segment, despite the upcoming arrival of a petrol-electric version of the Renault Clio. To reduce its consumption and its CO2in the city in particular, the Japanese receives a 3-cylinder 1.5 liter, associated with a lithium-ion battery. Developing 114 hp cumulative, this engine allows to drive in electric highway, steady speed. If petrol versions will also be available, the diesel will no longer be allowed on the Yaris.
SAFER AND VERY FRENCH To claim the title of "safest city in the world", the Japanese team is equipped, in series, many safety devices, active and passive. It even opens the first central airbag allowing front passengers not to collide in the event of a side impact. Manufactured since 2001 in the Onnaing factory, near Valenciennes, the Yaris has already sold more than 4 million copies. This new generation will be produced on the same site, where the Japanese manufacturer has invested 300 million euros.
Toyota does not content itself with sedans sober and sober, as evidenced by the new Supra. Close cousin of the BMW Z4, the Japanese two-seater (4.38 meters) combines a relaxed style and breathtaking performance. Its 6-cylinder turbo (340 hp), coupled with an automatic 8-speed transmission, propels it to 100 k / h in 4.3 seconds. Too bad that this endearing cut is so expensive to buy. From 65 900 euros, not included.
