Not long ago, a nastier version of the M5 was spotted on the Nürburgring: the CS. It certainly benefited from the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 but with a few extra horsepower. This time, an M8 CS Cabriolet would have been spotted on the Nordschleife.
BMW has not yet unveiled the M5 CS, but a recent spy video makes us think that it will not be the only model with the letters CS to arrive in the range. On this video we can see what appears to be a BMW M8 CS Cabriolet. It is still camouflaged and as the M8 Cabriolet version has already been unveiled, it could be a CS variant, right?
The BMW M8 Competition in its Coupé, Cabriolet or Gran Coupé versions has the same engine as the M5 Competiton. A 4.4-liter V8 developing 625 horsepower. But if it comes in an even more extreme version called CS, it would be logical that the M8 also receives some improvements.
How can we do better?
All M5 and M8 models are currently powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine known by internal code S63. BMW is rumored to be working on an updated version of this engine which could be called S68. It will keep the same configuration but could benefit in addition to a form of electrification and therefore more horses.
If an M8 CS version is on the program, BMW may also be working on the weight of the M8. Carbon elements, spoiler, more efficient and lighter exhaust line … In short, everything is possible. But for now, business to follow!
