For the very first truly sporty 100% electric vehicle from BMW, the manufacturer is under pressure. Indeed, it is a great first in the history of the brand, as for many others, to develop running gear adapted to the surge of instantaneous power and torque delivered by an electric motor. Parameters that must absolutely be controlled to make the car safe and controllable in all grip situations. Project manager David Alfredo Ferrufino Camacho puts it this way: “for the first time, we have developed from scratch a BMW with sporty DNA for purely electric driving”, before adding, “the BMW i4 offers everything that BMW stands for ”. Fans are reassured, the silent Bavarian will therefore offer sensations worthy of the brand, even if for once, it will be necessary to do without the sound of a six-cylinder in-line.

Only a few months before its official presentation, the BMW i4 is fine-tuning its settings on the circuit thanks to in-house engineers, forced to gradually adapt to the 100% electric propulsion mode, which is tending to become the norm. The manufacturer announces: the maximum power of the sedan will be 530 hp (390 kW), more than enough to have fun with linear acceleration in less than four seconds for 0 to 100 km / h.

The suspension tuning combined with an adapted anti-slip system (ARB) will also allow the BMW i4 to be docile, even in the wet, thus giving the pilot and his passengers a “catapult feeling when accelerating. ”. The evolution of battery technology will give the 100% electric sedan a range of up to 600 km in the WLTP cycle on a single charge. Information that BMW had already mentioned in March 2020 during the presentation of the Concept i4 and which seems to be confirmed for the production model. The final preparations are underway before the start of production of the car at the Munich plant. See you before the second half of 2021 to discover the definitive BMW i4.
