Ferrari’s “Breadvan”, this astonishing hunting station wagon, is making a comeback as a unique creation by a Dutch team based on a Ferrari 550 Maranello.
The astonishing Ferrari “van” on the basis of a 250 GTO was born in the early sixties from an internal quarrel between Enzo Ferrari, his wife, and a group of engineers deciding to take their freedom in a climate deemed too authoritarian. Supported by Giovanni Volpi, this project, carried out to mark the occasion against an overly arrogant Ferrari, gave birth to a Ferrari “Serenissima” 250 GT with a body made by a Bizzarrini tandem (also known for its V12 at Lamborghini … ) and Piero Drogo.
A hunting station wagon which runs at the 30th editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, against the Scuderia Ferrari of Enzo, which refused to deliver the two examples of 250 GTO to Volpi (which thus fell back on a 250 GT of opportunity for transformation) … this is a sacred image in Ferrari history.
60 years later, the Ferrari hunting station wagon made its comeback thanks to the Dutchman Niels van Roij. You already know him for his Tesla Model S Shooting Brake, and here is his other creation: a 550 Maranello transformed into a “van”. Many specialists have worked on this unique car which retains the atmospheric V12 5.5. Everything else has been redesigned: interior, bodywork, adjustable Köni suspensions, special 20-inch rims … This car is not for sale and simply serves as a showcase for the mad Dutchman.
