Tesla has released several images of its Shanghai Gigafactory, which now has the capacity to produce the Model Y, in addition to the Model 3, the first car to be made there.

Demand could be even stronger for the Model Y in the Middle Kingdom, so Tesla, the first foreign manufacturer to set up in the country, is preparing to step up the production of its small SUV.

Three factories will be responsible for producing the Model Y

The Model Y is currently produced in Fremont but will therefore be manufactured in other Gigafactories. In addition to Shanghai, factories in Texas and Berlin will also focus on its production on their lines, to begin deliveries next year.

"We are building a Model Y (production) line at Gigafactory Shanghai, Gigafactory Berlin and Gigafactory Texas, and we are still on schedule to begin deliveries from each structure in 2021"Elon Musk confirmed during the conference call following the announcement of the quarter's financial results.

For the moment, only prototypes have been designed in Shanghai, allowing Tesla to ensure that the production lines meet the brand's standards. Mass production of the Model Y in China will begin in early 2021.
