On November 2, 2019, a Northrop Grumman Antares rocket took off from Wallops Air Force Base, Virginia, bound for the International Space Station (ISS), carrying a series of samples of composite materials produced by Automobili Lamborghini.
The launch is part of a test campaign sponsored by the US National ISS Laboratory and overseen by the Houston Methodist Research Institute. Joint research on advanced carbon fiber composite materials was initiated two years ago between Automobili Lamborghini and the Houston Methodist Research Institute.
Its objective is to analyze the response of five different composite materials produced by Lamborghini to the extreme constraints induced by the space environment, with a view to future applications on the cars of Sant'Agata Bolognese and in the medical field.
