According to the manufacturer SSC, which has just broken the absolute top speed record, Bugatti is cheating on the top speed of its Chiron Super Sport 300+.

This week, SSC impressed everyone with its new speed record, signed by the Tuatara on a closed section of road near Las Vegas in the United States. The American manufacturer has indeed approved a top speed of 508 km / h in both directions, after having exceeded 532 km / h in one of the two directions of traffic. The latter figure beats the mark achieved last year by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ by more than 40 km / h, with its peak at 490 km / h achieved in one direction.

But at SSC, we add a little more after this already embarrassing performance for Bugatti: according to Jerod Shelby, the boss of SSC who confides in Road & Track, Bugatti cheated on the speed record of his Chiron Super Sport 300 +. He thinks that the model's electronically limited top speed, set at 460 km / h, corresponds to the true top speed of the Bugatti. The American claims that if the Bugatti record-breaking copy managed to reach 490 km / h, it was thanks to special modifications different from the models sold.

The end of records?

As a reminder, Bugatti declared that the brand would stop the race for speed records after this mark left by the Chiron Super Sport 300+. We will therefore have to rely on Hennessey and Koenigsegg to try to beat the new SSC record. At Bugatti, we now want to emphasize the versatility of its models, capable of driving very hard but also of going fast against the clock on the circuit … and of exploiting more than 1,500 horsepower without giving you the impression of risk your life at the slightest acceleration.
