Andreas Seidl is very happy to see McLaren point to third place in the championship, but believes that Racing Point retains the favorite place to achieve it. However, he predicts a four-team fight behind Mercedes and Red Bull.
"I think we have a chance to fight for third place" Judge Seidl. "I think Racing Point has a better car in terms of potential. It will be very interesting, with the restrictions on engine modes and the evolutions that everyone still brings, to see what the hierarchy will be on more normal tracks."
"I still think it will be a close battle between us Racing Point, Renault and Ferraris. I think we have a good car, a good team with two good drivers who are a great asset to our team, so we we have everything in hand to fight for third place. "
For Seidl, Monza's strong performance came as a surprise to McLaren, as Carlos Sainz qualified third to finish second, and he and Lando Norris were provisionally on the podium for the first half of the race.
"We weren't sure exactly where we were compared to Red Bull, we knew Mercedes would be completely out of reach, we also thought Renault would be stronger after their good performances at Monza last year and at Spa."
"But with the evolutions and the layout of Monza, which has even less downforce than Spa, it worked well for our car. We found the right window, the drivers felt comfortable from the first laps and we were able to improve during the weekend. It's great to see and it gives us a positive boost for the second half of the season.
