The Sporty two-door open-top BMW 4 Series Convertible claims a clear differentiation from the BMW 3 Series.
The design of the BMW 4 Series Convertible is based on clearly structured surfaces, a expressive front and proportions characteristic of a coupé.
From proportions to suspension settings to iconic design elements, the 4 Series Cabriolet is designed to offer a intense open-top driving experience.
By striking a fine balance between sporty driving pleasure and the thrill of the great outdoors, the BMW 4 Series Cabriolet continues a long tradition in this model class which began 35 years ago with the launch of the very first BMW 3 Series Cabriolet.
The very remote location of the seats helps to offer passengers theoutdoor driving experience, in the sun and the wind in your hair.
The vertical BMW radiator grille, in the tradition of the brand's coupés, refer to the important cooling needs of the engine.
The four-seater convertible model follows in the footsteps of the BMW 4 Series Coupé with a decidedly sporty silhouette.
The open-top BMW 4 Series differs from the coupé variant by its textile hood and his various specific reinforcement elements for its body.
Stretched side windows, muscular shoulders, sharp profile and slippery roofline highlight the athletic character of the BMW two-door convertible.
The 4 Series Convertible has a length of 4,768 mm and a width of 1,852 mm, for a wheelbase of 2,851 mm. Its height is 1,384 mm with the hood closed.
The hood with flat hoops of the BMW 4 Series Convertible combines the advantages of a retractable hardtop with the authentic character of a textile soft top. It is made up of curved panels incorporating a glass rear window, several layers of insulating material and an upper fabric layer offered as standard in black and optionally in an Anthracite silver effect version. This flat-arch soft top thus offers thermal and acoustic comfort superior to that of a conventional textile soft top, while weighing 40% less than the retractable hard top of the previous model.
The top is moved by a electric motor capable of opening and closing in 18 seconds at the touch of a button – even when driving up to a speed of 50 km / h.
The adaptable hood compartment increases the boot volume by 300 to 385 liters when the roof is closed.
The narrow headlights of the BMW 4 Series Convertible extend right up to the front wheel arches.
Of LED spotlights with particularly fine contours are part of the standard equipment.
Of adaptive LED lights with Laser headlamps are optionally offered with a curve lighting function and variable road lighting optimized for driving in built-up areas and on motorways. When the vehicle speed exceeds 60 km / h, Laser projectors increase the range of the high beam up to 550 meters and dynamically follow the course of the road.
The LED tail lights dark, with light guides, are L-shaped typed.
The interior design is focused on sportiness with a driver-oriented cockpit, display package with up to 10.25-inch control screen and 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster (optional), a leather sport steering wheel and Advanced seats for driver and front passenger available as standard.
The two rear seats are configured as individual seats.
The windshield with sound-absorbing glass contributes to acoustic comfort.
A sliding glass roof that can be opened with an extended glass surface of 24 mm, mood lighting including welcome lighting with carpet light, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound hi-fi system and auxiliary heating controlled by smartphone or BMW Display Key are optionally available.
The 4 Series Cabriolet benefits from the optimization of the body structure and the chassis with a lowered center of gravity of 28 mm and a widened rear track of 18 mm.
The rigid structure of the chassis is reinforced by the addition of reinforcements specific to convertible models, an aluminum reinforcing plate under the front axle and side skirts with high torsional rigidity.
The 50/50 axle load distribution and rear axle lift contribute to sporting performance.
Progressive damping, with specific adjustments, is part of the standard equipment.
DirectDrive suspensions, with more pronounced shock absorber firming, SelectDrive M suspensions with electronic damper control, M Sport brake system with selectable blue or red calipers, M Sport differential with fully variable locking function in the rear axle and variable-gear DirectDrive steering are available as options.
The 4 Series Cabriolet has a wide range of driving aids. Forward collision warning with braking function, lane departure warning with return to the lane and steering assistance and speed limit indicator are standard.
The optional Drive Assist Pro includes, among other things, the steering and lane control assistant enhanced with new active guidance functions.
The 3D visualization of the vehicle environment displays, in the digital instrument cluster, a representation of the car in its surroundings and indicates the existing possibilities for action through activated driving aids.
PDC parking sensors with front and rear sensors are standard, as is Park Assist, which automates parking and exiting maneuvers and includes reverse assist.
The optional Park Assist Plus adds Park View, Panorama View, 3D Top View and Remote 3D View. The BMW Drive Recorder records video footage (maximum 40 seconds) of the surroundings of the vehicle.
The BMW operating system 7.0 enables individual and personalized displays on the control screen and instrument cluster and provides access to the digital BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant on the road.
The cloud-based BMW Maps navigation system is available as standard. It includes precise route and arrival time calculation, short interval updates of real-time traffic data and free text entry to select navigation destinations.
Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi wireless connection, information displays on the control screen and in the instrument cluster are standard.
The Remote Software Upgrade enables the over-the-air installation in the car of optimized automotive functions and new digital services.
The 4 Series Cabriolet is available in three engine variants.
The sporty BMW M440i xDrive Cabriolet sits at the top of the range. The flagship sports model is powered by a 374 hp (275 kW) inline 6-cylinder petrol engine.
A 184 hp 4-cylinder petrol engine (BMW 420i Cabriolet) and a 190 hp 4-cylinder diesel engine (BMW 420d Cabriolet) are also available.
The light hybridization technology is implemented on the 6 cylinders in line gasoline and on the diesel engines. An 11 hp (8 kW) 48V alternator-starter of additional power supports the heat engine.
Two-stage supercharging is incorporated into all diesel engines.
An 8-speed automatic transmission is standard on all variants.
An 8-speed Sport automatic gearbox with optional paddle shifters is fitted with a sprint function for spontaneous and dynamic acceleration maneuvers.
BMW xDrive intelligent 4-wheel drive technology is available on the BMW M440i xDrive Cabriolet.
An anti-eddy net (optional) directs the flow of air through the passenger compartment. Easily removable even with the hood closed, it stows away in a custom-designed cover provided as an addition which then slides into a location behind the folding backrests of the rear seats.
The neck warmers integrated into the headrests of the front seats (optional) increase the impression of comfort when traveling in cold outside temperatures.
