Sergio Perez said this week that he is increasingly confident that he can stay with his Racing Point team next season despite lingering speculation about his possible replacement by Sebastian Vettel.
Options for Vettel, the four-time champion who is leaving Ferrari at the end of the year, appear limited for 2021 but persistent rumors link the German driver to Racing Point – which will become Aston Martin next year.
Sergio Perez and teammate Lance Stroll are both under contract for next year with Aston Martin, though Perez recently admitted he was " obvious " for him that he would have to leave in the event that team owner Lawrence Stroll decides to sign Vettel, not least because Lance Stroll is none other than his son.
Asked for the umpteenth time about his future with the squad, Mexican Sergio Perez continues to say he sees no sign internally of Sebastian Vettel's possible arrival next year.
"I don't want to give up my place at all. I do not hope so! " said Sergio Perez.
“What I mean is that at the moment everything seems to be going in the right direction with the team. "
“The feedback I have from the team is that we will continue together. So we'll see. "
"I think it's only a matter of time before the rumors dissipate. Anyway, I haven't spoken to anyone else because my position in the team seems secure. "
