McLaren indicated on Wednesday that Paul di Resta will be their reserve driver in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix next weekend at Silverstone. The English team, under an agreement with Mercedes, can normally have the drivers of its German counterpart, but Stoffel Vandoorne is in Berlin for the end of the Formula E season, and Esteban Gutierrez has not obtained his Super License. .
McLaren therefore chose Di Resta, 59 Grands Prix contested during three seasons in F1, between 2011 and 2013 at Force India. The Scotsman, who can therefore replace Carlos Sainz or Lando Norris, returned to the paddock in 2017 in Hungary to replace Felipe Massa at Williams just before qualifying, the Brazilian being ill. At 34, Di Resta is currently a WEC driver, with United Autosports in LMP2.
