Deprived of a large part of its usual suppliers, Huawei is unable to produce enough Kirin chips to equip its Huawei P50. Following the American sanctions against it, the Chinese group cannot in fact trade with firms like TSMC.

According to information from our colleagues at MyDrivers, Huawei has however amassed a large stock of chipsets to hold on despite Washington’s restrictions. Unfortunately, the stock of chips will not be enough to ensure the launch of the P50s. The company does not have enough Kirin 9000 available.

No 5G for standard P50s

Huawei would therefore have decided to” integrate Qualcomm Snapdragon chips within some P50 models. Here again, the restrictions decreed by Donald Trump during his presidential term have put a damper on Huawei. Washington effectively prevents the group fromuse technologies compatible with 5G. De facto, Huawei cannot integrate a 5G modem in its smartphones.

According to information from MyDrivers, the standard P50, the most affordable model in the line, is said to be powered by a Snapdragon SoC without a 5G modem. The smartphone should be content with 4G. Several leaks have already mentioned the arrival of P50s without a 5G connection. This restriction also allows Huawei to reduce production costs.

The manufacturer would have decided to reserve the remaining Kirin 9000 chips, and accompanied by a 5G modem, to the most premium versions of the range, the P50 Pro and P50 Pro +. Citing supply chain experts, MyDrivers estimates that the P50 Pro that will hit the market in the coming months will be powered by a Kirin chip. However, Huawei expected to run out of Kirin 9000 by December.

Huawei will announce the three P50s at a conference scheduled for July 29, 2021. We’ll tell you more about the P50s as soon as possible. While waiting for more information on the future flagships of Huawei, do not hesitate to give your opinion in the comments below.
