Lando Norris joined McLaren last year and the team is starting to perform better this year, as evidenced by the Briton’s podium in the first race of the season. He reveals that he was under relatively little pressure because the results of the years leading up to his arrival were catastrophic at McLaren.
"I think in a certain sense it was not problematic because I was able to join them with much less pressure than if they had been at the top for example, and if they had had the capacity to win races, I think there would have been a lot more pressure on the driver " explains Norris, who had worked with McLaren during his F2 year.
"It was a good scenario for me to join the team. It was a good thing that I got to spend a lot of time with my engineers. I got to learn from Stoffel (Vandoorne) and Fernando (Alonso) and progress in a better way as the car gets better. "
This gradual arrival was, according to him, one of the reasons for his ease and the lack of pressure for his debut: "It was good for me to be able to focus on myself rather than having a lot of pressure, even though there is pressure inherent in driving for McLaren."
