Nokia may have lost its luster over the years, the brand survives by producing entry-level and mid-range smartphones in particular. But the big ambitions seem to be back. According to the Chinese site IT Home, the firm is currently working on two smartphones equipped with high-end technical sheets. Named X60 and X60 Pro, they would spearhead a new strategy, potentially correlated with Huawei.
A daring choice to say the least
Indeed, the site announces that it would be the first smartphones of the brand running HarmonyOS, the new operating system of the fallen giant. If this information is to be taken with a grain of salt, such an approach could prove to be a win-win. Huawei could benefit from a partnership with a brand that still has a strong connection in Europe, while Nokia would finally have a differentiating element in terms of marketing. Neither company, however, confirmed these claims.
According to this information, the two devices would have a main sensor of 200 Mpx. An impressive figure, but one which should become more democratic in the years to come. It is very likely that the partnership with Zeiss, which has lasted for several years, will be renewed. As we have seen on many smartphones, especially those equipped with a 108 Mpx module, a large number of megapixels does not necessarily mean better quality. The Pixel range, for example, has shown us that good image processing can do wonders.
A technical sheet at the level
Flagship status requires, these two new smartphones could be equipped with the very powerful SoC Snapdragon 888, or even its next evolution, the Snapdragon 888 Plus. The Phone Arena site evokes for its part a panel displaying a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a large battery of 5000 or 6000 mAh, obviously compatible with fast charging.
A technical sheet that effectively corresponds to the vision of a premium smartphone. But in the high-end jungle, the Finn could seek to stand out both on the hardware, with its photo module, and on the software part, by choosing to opt for Harmony OS. A choice that nevertheless seems very daring.
