The new Yaris is wanted! It was unveiled with much advance, since during the presentation in October 2019, Toyota already announced an arrival in the dealerships for June 2020. But the Covid-19 crisis went through there, and the brand is now announcing firsts back to school deliveries.
The last shows having been canceled, the public still could not approach the car and must therefore be satisfied with the official images, which as always show high-end models fully equipped. But can the car still please in the basic version, called France?
It starts badly. Although brand new, this Yaris has clearly visible doors. This is a very unsightly element that we thought we would no longer see in 2020! On tall versions, the upper part painted black hides this. The basic Yaris is also content with 15-inch wheels with hubcaps, but this is not surprising for a city car. The plastics here have a raw appearance. Good point, however, for the careful decoration of the headlights. Full LED arrives from the second Design finish. Another positive element: the access model to a shark antenna.
Here, no bad surprise. It is even rather the opposite, thanks to the wealth of equipment. We thus find in series a 7 inch touch screen and automatic air conditioning. No stripped atmosphere therefore. The only small defect on this point is the somewhat basic instrumentation.
Toyota also wants to take care of the impression of quality: the base model receives the foam dashboard and a multifunction leather steering wheel. Inevitably, in base, one is satisfied with a black fabric upholstery. The only big flaw is the sadness of the presentation. But it is not better on the high end.
There is nothing to say there. This hybrid Yaris has a high base price (€ 20,950) but the equipment is rich. As said above, we already have auto air conditioning and the touch screen, with Apple Car Play or Android Auto connectivity. We also have the rain and light sensor and hands-free access / start. On the safety side, this Yaris France automatically has automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keeping assistance, recognition of traffic signs, automatic high beams and, a great first at this level range, adaptive cruise control!
The exterior is a bit basic. But for the rest it's good, with a special mention for the equipment part!
