In order to assess their potential with a view to a possible tenure next season in F1, at Alfa Romeo or Haas, Ferrari will test by the end of the season three drivers who are members of its academy: Mick Schumacher, leader of the Championship of F2 with 191 points, Callum Ilott (2nd with 169 points) and Robert Shwartzman (5th with 140 points).
The German will be behind the wheel from the next Grand Prix, that of the Eifel, at the Nürburgring (October 11), during the first free practice session on Friday. He will drive Antonio Giovinazzi's Alfa Romeo. Ilott will play the same session in a Haas. As for Shwartzman, he will be tested during testing for the Abu Dhabi GP at the end of the season (December 13).
“We believe a lot in our academy, which has already proven its worth with Charles Leclerc, a driver on whom the Scuderia will build its long-term futurecommented Laurent Mekies, Ferrari sporting director and director of the Ferrari Driver Academy. Callum, Mick and Robert have already proven their worth in the current F2 season, and these tries are another step in their training. "
