Star among executive sedans, the E-Class is given a second lease of life after a major restyling. Exterior design, interior presentation, on-board technologies, engines… the restyled “E” brings something new to all levels.
To qualify the E-Class as a best-seller would almost be an understatement, as the Mercedes-Benz road is essential in its category and multimillionaire by its worldwide registrations. A sacred career costing more than 14 million copies sold since its first generation, including 7,000 on the Moroccan market alone. Launched in 2016, the current generation already has more than 1.2 million units sold, even though the famous mid-life facelift took place. A necessary step out of which the E-Class has evolved well, starting with its style, smooth and refined at will.
A changing face
Aesthetically, the general appearance remains unchanged, but becomes more refined. In fact, it is above all the light signature that changes the most. In this area, the “E” is similar to the A-Class with front headlamps which adopt a new boomerang-shaped design. The grille can accommodate two or three slats and, for the first time on an E-Class, the imposing central star is included in the base model. At the rear, the light blocks change and become so elongated that they bite generously into the trunk lid. But still ? The exterior mirrors feature a frameless mirror, while new rim designs appear in the catalog. Count 17 inches on the first level, 18 ” on the second and 19 ” on the AMG Line finish, or even 20 ” as an option. The latter plays an otherwise more distinctive score and a sporty touch through its different trimmings and artifices, the most noticeable of which is the so-called “diamond” grille with chrome pins.
A surplus of comfort and technology
When it came out in 2016, the “E” struck a chord with its fully digital cockpit via two slabs juxtaposed in length. If it does not change, this configuration has evolved considerably by receiving from the first level the extended functionalities of the intelligent voice assistant MBUX which is activated via the magic words “Hey Mercedes”. Still techno, the steering wheel becomes capacitive via tactile keys and even able to detect if the driver is holding it. In addition to adaptive cruise control, the E receives an active directional assistant, autonomous emergency braking and parking assistance with 360 ° cameras and autonomous parking module. New colors of materials and trim enhance the interior, which still offers good rear roominess. In addition, and because a business manager’s coach is supposed to “swallow” kilometers, special attention has been paid to the seats. These provide maximum lateral support without neglecting comfort thanks to central parts of seats and backs perfectly adapted to various morphologies. Above all, the equipment has been enriched and redesigned through new configurations called Business, Business +, Avantgarde, Luxury and AMG Line.
A wide choice while waiting for the hybrid
From the outset, the “E” transcends the ordinary with, among other equipment, dual-zone auto air conditioning, two digital screens (10.25 ”) with MBUX system and touchpad on the console, headlights LED, parking sensors with reversing camera, autonomous emergency braking, drowsiness detector, rain sensor, ’17’ ‘aluminum rims, imitation leather upholstery, electrically folding mirrors or even inserts decorative aluminum. Targeting “fleet” customers, the Business + finish adds the relevance of a wireless charger for smartphones and run-flat tires, as well as the smoothness of better upholstery (Avantgarde) with topstitching and a cozy atmosphere by mood lighting (64 colors). The Avantgarde finish is adorned with chic woodwork and receives larger tiles (12.3 ”), 18 ” rims, GPS by hard disk as well as a few “extras” such as motorized trunk opening. , the sun visors in the rear and the leather seats with memorizable settings in the front. Camped on 19 ” wheels and recognizable by its panoramic sunroof, the chrome frame of its grille and the star above the hood, the Luxury finish, the “E” goes even further by fitting the doors soft-close, panoramic cameras, Nappa leather seats, blind spot monitoring and a Burmester sound system with 13 HP. As for the AMG Line version, in addition to its Multibeam LED headlights, its flattened steering wheel and dark tinted rear window, it stands out above all with its diamond grille, side sills, specific rims and its AMG Line interior. Under the hood, the E-Class imported by Auto Nejma is available in two diesel versions, namely the 220d (194 hp) and the 400d (330 hp) 4-wheel drive (4Matic), as well as a petrol engine, the E300 (258 hp). From the second quarter, the E300e (plug-in hybrid of 320 hp) will enrich the Moroccan catalog of Auto Nejma, which aims, neither more nor less, to regain leadership in this category.
