When we say Lexus, we usually think of it as premium and hybrid. In the field of motorization, the luxury subsidiary of Toyota has always followed the creed of the parent company by gradually equipping its models with non-rechargeable hybrid systems, which ends up becoming an exception in a landscape now dominated by the hybrid. plugin.
Lexus will however take a big symbolic step towards all-electric since the brand will officially announce at the Geneva Motor Show in early March next its first 100% electric model, the Lexus UX 300e. Like many other manufacturers, Lexus launches into the electric with an SUV, but this is not a new car, since the Lexus electric will be just an additional version of the compact SUX UX which is experiencing some success on all European markets in its self-rechargeable Hybrid UX 250h version. It is however still surprising to see that Lexus positions this new car as dedicated to driving pleasure in an urban environment, when it is an SUV.
400 kilometers of autonomy in the NEDC cycle
The UX 300e will be powered by a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor combined with a high-performance 54.3 kWh lithium-ion battery allowing it to operate for 400 km (NEDC cycle).
In terms of infotainment and connectivity, the Lexus UX 300e will be equipped with a Mark Levinson audio system with 13 speakers, a touchpad allowing you to control the 10.3 ″ screen of the navigation system, services connected devices such as Apple CarPlay ™ and Android Auto ™, and the Lexus Link application, which offers features linked to the electric vehicle such as remote charging, remote air conditioning and search for charging stations.
With regard to safety-related equipment, the UX 300e will be fitted with the Lexus Safety System + which notably includes the pre-collision safety system with pedestrian detection, the lane-keeping system to help you stay on course, adaptive beam main beams to better discern pedestrians and traffic signs in the dark, automatic reading of traffic signs, and finally an adaptive cruise control.
The Lexus UX 300e is the first production model marketed as part of the "Lexus Electrified" strategy which will allow the brand to rapidly develop its range of electric vehicles.
Lexus will also be presenting new digital exterior mirrors in Geneva, which will soon equip the Lexus ES sedan. The car's side mirrors will be replaced by HD cameras linked to screens on the dashboard. A new feature which is already optional on the Audi e-tron electric as well as the Honda E.
