Lexus can rejoice. The Japanese manufacturer has just crossed the bar of 500,000 SUVs sold in Europe since the launch of the RX in 2000 (501,887 units at the end of November to be precise). The latter is also the best-selling Lexus SUV on the Old Continent with 274,116 units sold over four generations.
It thus appears before the NX, launched in 2014 (139,831 copies) and the UX, marketed in early 2019 (18,700). In the Eastern European and Russian markets, the brand also includes the SUV LX (55,187 sales) and GX (14,053) in its catalog.
SUV yes, but hybrid SUV!
The RX is also the first premium SUV to have had a hybrid version with the launch of the RX 400h in 2005.
Since then, about half of the 500,000 Lexus SUVs sold in Europe have been in hybrid versions (239,873 copies). "A proportion which is increasing very regularly," explains the manufacturer. "In 2019, at the end of November, Hybrids accounted for 63% of sales in the region, and up to 96% in the Western European markets and even 100% in France.", He concluded.
