Lamborghini to test materials in Space Station – Futura-Sciences

Lamborghini join the International Space Station to test five composite materials under extreme conditions. Samples of carbon fiber will be shipped to space on November 2, 2019.

This project was initiated two years ago by the Italian manufacturer and the Methodist Institute of Houston (USA) to study "The biocompatibility of composite materials and their potential use in prostheses and implants subcutaneous taking advantage of their lightness, as well as their transparency and compatibility to the X-rays ". The information collected on these materials during this new phase of the project will therefore be exploited both in the field of construction automotive and in the biomedical field.

Lamborghini is the very first builder automotive to operate the ISS for its research on materials in carbon fiber. Samples will remain on board the Station for six months, time to conduct temperature tests from -40 to +200 ° C and submit them to ultraviolet and gamma. Then, on the return of the samples on EarthLamborghini and the Methodist Institute of Houston will study their alteration.
