Apple has just released a new update for the iPhone, iOS 14.4.2. It attacks security. This patch is for iPhone 6s and newer and iPod Touch 7sth generation.

The giant provides a solution to a concern allowing the processing of malicious web content. The update arrives urgently because reports indicate that this Webkit flaw is already actively exploited. The release note explains that the solution involves better management of the lifespan of objects.

Note that this security problem CVE-2021-1879 is also corrected for iPhone 5s, 6, 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3 and iPod touch 6th generation through iOS 12.5.2 and iPadOS 14.4.2 for iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and newer, iPad 5th generation and newer, and iPad mini 4 and newer. Finally watchOS 7.3.3 is also available for the Apple Watch series 3 and newer.

Interestingly, this is the second security patch released by Apple in March 2021. This new vulnerability was found by Clément Lecigne of Google Threat Analysis Group and Billy Leonard of Google Threat Analysis Group.

iPhone, how to install iOS 14.4.2?

In view of the “security” and urgent nature of this update, it is strongly recommended to install it as soon as possible.

To update the iPhone, just go to this address

Réglages > Général > Mise à jour logicielle.

iOS 14.4.2 should appear normally. Just click on “Download and Install”.

Note that the next big event is iOS 14.5 with normally a few important improvements. For example, a new feature will allow you to unlock the iPhone using your Apple Watch. This function will be useful in view of the generalization of the wearing of the mask posing a concern with FaceID technology.
