The foldable iPhone is on the way! In order to develop its first generation of foldable smartphone, Apple reportedly ordered a large sample of flexible OLED displays from Samsung. However, this device with a folding screen is not expected before 2023.
Like most phone manufacturers, Apple is working on a foldable smartphone. Several patents filed in recent years show the Cupertino’s interest in this form factor of the future. According to the latest leaks, Apple is more inclined towards a foldable iPhone similar to Microsoft's Surface Duo. Rather than a single foldable screen connected by a central hinge, the brand would opt for a construction consisting of two screens.

A foldable display designed by Samsung for the foldable iPhone
However, Apple reportedly ordered sample foldable screens from Samsung, reveals Ice Universe, a famous informant, on Sina Weibo, the Chinese social network. Always well informed about Samsung, the leaker says that Apple has ordered a significant amount of foldable OLED panels. "Looks like everything is about to fall into place" emphasizes Ice Universe. We can therefore imagine that Apple will launch production of a first prototype in the coming months.
Samsung would hope to become the exclusive supplier of foldable displays to Apple for a full year. Currently, the manufacturer is still the main supplier of the American brand for iPhones. Through this partnership, Samsung Display generates significant profits every year. Under these conditions, it will come as no surprise that the Seoul giant is doing everything possible to become the exclusive supplier to Apple. In March, Samsung had already offered the Galaxy Fold screen technology to several companies, including Apple.
Contrary to previous rumors, Apple therefore works well on a really foldable iPhone, like the Galaxy Z Flip or the Galaxy Fold. According to the latest news, the first foldable iPhone will not hit the market before 2023. Until then, Samsung is free to impose itself on the emerging market for foldable smartphones with its Galaxy Z Flip, and its multiple variations of Galaxy Z Fold 2. What do you expect from the foldable iPhone? We await your opinion in the comments below.
