September is only five months away and this is reflected in particular with the number of more or less precise rumors that are spreading on the Internet about future Apple smartphones. It is in this context that the video of YouTuber EverythingApplePro comes out.

The videographer was able to create dummy models and 3D renderings of the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the iPhone 13 mini based on various sources.

A thicker iPhone 13 Pro Max for a larger photo block

Regarding the iPhone 13 Pro Max, we note in particular that the latter could be thicker by 0.9 mm than its predecessor, or 7.65 mm for the iPhone 13 Pro Max against 7.40 mm for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

As for the photo unit on the back, the latter would also be subject to changes. Apple would enlarge in length, width and thickness the module of the future iPhone 13 Pro Max. According to EverythingApplePro, these changes are linked to the integration of a larger LiDAR sensor.

Photo block length Photo block width Photo block thickness
iPhone 13 Pro Max 37.62 mm 36.56 mm 3.65 mm
iPhone 12 Pro Max 34.23 mm 31.79 mm 2.78 mm

As you can see through this table, the iPhone 13 Pro Max could get a bigger photo block. To this day, this remains only speculation, it will be necessary to wait a few more months to get to the bottom of it.

Moreover, this same video talks about the iPhone 13 mini and also talks about changes in its dimensions.

Slight changes for the iPhone 13 mini

Although the iPhone 14 mini might not see the light of day in 2022, the 2021 iPhone vintage would be entitled to its mini version. The iPhone 13 mini would also be 0.26mm thicker with a larger, thicker, but shorter photo block than the iPhone 12 mini (-0.14mm).

The changes would be smaller than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

iPhone 13 mini 28.26 mm 28.27 mm 2.50 mm
iPhone 12 mini 28.40 mm 25.21 mm 1.51 mm
Differences between iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 12 mini -0.14 mm 3.06 mm 0.99 mm

Good things come to those who wait for

In terms of design, the change would not be obvious since Apple realizes a real aesthetic turn every three years or so. What could potentially change is rather on the side of the characteristics with the possible arrival of a panel with refresh rates of 120 Hz or the increase in storage capacity for iPhone 13. Some rumors also evoke the possible return of the Touch ID because of the pandemic – the masks we have to wear make Face ID less relevant.

All of this information is obviously not to be taken at face value. It will be necessary to wait until September to see Apple confirm or not the information around the iPhone 13. Moreover, the silicon crisis that some manufacturers are undergoing would not affect Apple which indeed plans to release its future iPhone on time. In the meantime, meet on April 20 at 7 p.m. for the keynote to welcome the novelties concocted by Apple for the start of 2021.
