For months, the media have been talking about a possible delay in the release of the next iPhone. And a few days ago, this was finally confirmed by the Cupertino company. As reported by Cnet, this is what Luca Maestri, Apple CFO, said at an analysts conference: “As you know, last year we started selling iPhones at the end of September. This year, we expect the supply to be available a few weeks later. "
While the official does not explain the reasons for the delay, some sources point to the disruption due to the pandemic. It is also recalled that the next iPhones should be the first 5G smartphones from Apple, which has signed an agreement with Qualcomm to be able to source a 5g modem from this supplier.
A launch in two waves?
Currently, new rumors suggest that Apple could launch its new iPhones in two waves. In an article published on Friday, our colleagues at 9to5Mac relay a note allegedly published by analyst Ming Chi Kuo, whose forecasts are regularly mentioned by the media. According to the article, the non-Pro models of the iPhone 12 were released before the Pro models.
Otherwise, the article published by 9to5Mac also mentions a compliance issue for one of the iPhone 12 lenses. Indeed, during tests to test the component's resistance to tropical climates, it would have had cracks. But the good news is that this issue wouldn't imply another iPhone 12 lag.
Indeed, Apple would have two suppliers for the lens. The quality issues would only have been seen on the lens of one of those vendors.
But of course, for now, this information should still be viewed with caution, even if Kuo's predictions are often correct.
At the moment, we do not know when Apple will present its new iPhones. But some sources say the keynote shouldn't be delayed. However, fans of the firm will have to wait longer before they can buy the new iPhones.
Otherwise, it should be noted that this wouldn't be the first time Apple has made a two-wave launch. In 2017, the company launched the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on its regular schedule, and then launched the iPhone X a few weeks later.
