With iOS 14, Apple has given even more possibilities for personalization to its users. Widgets are emerging to bring a little variety and originality to iPhone home screens. Here's how to set them up.
iOS 14 is now available on iPhones. Apple's operating system brings many improvements such as picture in picture, the arrival of an application library or the possibility of changing the default browser or email client. But what most attracted owners of smartphones to the apple was the appearance of widgets.
These thumbnails will be added to the home screen to finally allow you to customize this page a little more, which was limited to application icons and a wallpaper … Apple has obviously provided a selection of widgets native via its applications, but other third-party creators also play the game. Display the weather, its notes, its music or photos … here's how to set up the widgets of iOS 14.
How to add the widgets Apple iOS 14
As with any enhancement to an Apple product, the apple brand comes with accessories that it has created itself. It's the same here with the widgets since many system applications are already compatible.
To discover them, switch your home screen to fashion " jiggle" by long pressing on an icon or on an empty space and click on the + at the top left of the screen.
We are then faced with a list of widgets created by Apple with weather, music, notes or photos.
Select the widget of your choice, choose the format to adopt and click on Add the widget.
You just have to place it wherever you want on your various home screens to take advantage of shortcuts to the linked application! By simply clicking on the widget, you will automatically be redirected to the app in question.
Click on OK at the top right of the screen and your widget will be installed!
To delete it, the operation is the same as for an application: press and hold the widget and click on Remove widget.

In addition to having its own native tiles, iOS 14 offers the possibility for other applications to do the same! The number 1 application of the moment when it comes to widgets is WidgetSmith. It offers many possibilities of customization and opens the field of possibilities of widgets.
To get started, you'll download the app from the App Store. It's 100% free, but, as of this writing, is only in English. If you have trouble with the language of Shakespeare and Jay-Z, be sure to follow our instructions.
When opening the application, choose the format of widget you want by clicking on Small, Medium or Large # 1.
By opening one of the widgets, start by renaming it according to what you want to do with it.
Then click on the square Default Widget to be able to modify everything as you wish. In the game Style, go down to Custom to view a photo, entire album, text, etc.
Create a photo widget
Apple offers a widget photo, but limit it to a preview of a slideshow of your week. WidgetSmith offers you the possibility to make a widget just one photo.
To do this, in the tab Custom, choose Photo and you will see that the different tabs will be erased to make room for Selected photo.
By going in Choose photo, your photo library will open and you just have to choose the photo to display.
Click on Save and your new widget will be ready to be added!
Create a text, date or time widget
To create a thumbnail that displays text, the date or the time, we will have to redo the classic steps of creating widgets and in the tab Style you will choose between the different options to display the time, date or text.
If you have chosen one of the first two, you can already proceed to the next step. If you want a widget of text, the tab Text will add up and you will write whatever you want on it.
Whether you have chosen the date, time or text, you will have to go through the personalization of the widget. You can choose between the font, the text color and the background color to have the best possible combo.
Then click on Save to confirm the creation of your work. Now you will be able to add your new widgets on the home screen.
Add widgets to the home screen
Go to the menu widgets and choose WidgetSmith. As with the other applications, iOS will offer you the three formats to add. Select the format for which you created the widget of your choice and click Add the Widget.
If you have created several widgets of the same format, WidgetSmith will automatically add the first one in the list. To change the displayed thumbnail, long press it and click Edit Widget.
A menu will open with the name of the widget displayed that you gave it when you created it. Click on it and the list of all your creations will open. You just have to select the one to display and voila!
