It’s in the last Shanghai Auto Show thatInfiniti, the luxury brand of Nissan, had premiered the Qs Inspiration concept, the latest in a long line of concept vehicles showcasing the automaker’s ambitions for electrified vehicles. The vehicle, which makes its first appearance in Canada, is, according to the manufacturer, very representative of a new model which should enter production in two years. It's a safe bet that the next generation of the Q50 or Q70 will be strongly inspired by this.
The vehicle receives a new platform dedicated entirely to electrical architecture, which has enabled engineers to make the most of the advantages of this type of propulsion, especially by exploiting the additional space available. The good news is that this time, it's not an SUV as the trend wants, but a sports sedan, an electric segment that may well take on more and more importance. '' in a few years, especially since Mercedes-Benz and BMW and Audi will join the dance shortly.
Style-wise, the vehicle looks like a four-door sedan, but with all the ingredients of a sports coupe. The effect is particularly emphasized by the large front doors, while those at the rear, which open in the opposite direction, are not very visible and well integrated, giving the appearance of a two-door coupé. The car sits well on huge 22-inch aluminum-alloy wheels decorated with the kimono pattern. According to Alfonso Albaisa, Director General of Design: “There is a common denominator in all of our most recent concepts; the Q Inspiration, the Prototype 10, the QX Inspiration and now the Qs Inspiration. All these vehicles illustrate what the aesthetics ofInfiniti for the electric age. "
The design on board is a creation of Karim Habib, a well-known character to whom we owe some of the most beautiful interiors at BMW before coming to Nissan few years ago. The designer has made the most of all the space available by creating a "lounge" type environment with, as is now the trend, an ultra-minimalist dashboard, most of whose functions are accessible via a large touch screen. The driving position is high, a driving characteristic that attracts many SUV enthusiasts.
Electric motors and all-wheel drive
According to Adam Paterson, Managing Director at Infiniti Canada, “With Qs Inspiration, we can see the future design of the Infiniti electric range, which will be launched very soon. This is a new way of designing a sports sedan, with an elevated driving position and a high-performance all-wheel drive electric motor. "
The manufacturer has revealed few details concerning the engine of the vehicle, we know however that the powertrain is composed of several E-Power electric motors, allowing to create an all-wheel drive. We also know that all future models of the brand will offer a choice of electric, e-POWER, hybrid powertrains and will be assembled on a platform and specialized architecture.
