Industrial vehicles – Eiffage Génie Ciivil receives the first electric Volvo Traucks FE forwarder – Chantiers de France

After having acquired 15 Volvo FH LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), Eiffage has just placed an order for its subsidiary Eiffage Génie Civil for the first electric FE to Volvo Trucks. Intended for use in the construction site approach, in particular on works in Greater Paris, this acquisition is part of the company's low carbon strategy.

Committed for the past ten years to a process of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, the Eiffage group is exploring all technical alternatives. Renewing the equipment fleet through the acquisition of electric industrial vehicles is one way to respond to this challenge. As Xavier Mony, Managing Director of Eiffage Génie Civil, points out, "the group is committed to a process aimed at reducing its carbon footprint with the goal of reducing emissions by 33% by 2030".
The operator chose a 100% electric Volvo Trucks FE electric carrier, in a classic configuration: 6 x 2 equipped with a 5,200 mm platform and a 3 cantilever crane. 145 mm. A 530 Nm power take-off, via an electric motor, completes its equipment. It is powered by two electric motors of 200 kW max / 2 x 425 Nm. The four batteries give it a total energy capacity of 200 kWh. Two battery systems are available: fast or slow charging for downtime of 1.5 hours and 8 hours respectively.

After its camber, Palfinger (5,200 mm platform and auxiliary crane PK12502SH), the 26 t PTAC carrier will deliver and collect tools and spare parts for demolition work as part of the worksites of lot 1 of line 16 and of lot T2B of line 15 of the Grand Paris Express. With its 4 batteries, the total overweight (including the power electronics) reaches 3000 kg, reduced to 2000 kg thanks to the exemption of 1000 kg.

The production of the electric truck is carried out at the French Volvo Trucks plant located in Blainville-sur-Orne in Calvados (14). A historic site operated by Renault Trucks, a subsidiary of the Swedish group, which has been developed accordingly to be able to assemble electric vehicles (FL-FE). The Normandy site ensures the production of the industrial electric range of 16-26 tonnes, available with short, deep and LEC cabins. On the battery side, packs from 100 to 300 kWh are available. The motors develop 166/332 kW (200/400 kW peak) of power, for torques of 425/850 Nm. Among the specific features of the electric versions, the motor, common used for the FL and FE, but in duplicate on the FE, the clutchless gearbox and noise treatment, especially the air compressor. For an optimized range in relation to use, from 2 to 6 50kWh battery packs are available, each unit providing a range of approximately 50 km.
