Pipo Derani was the fastest in the first free practice session of this weekend’s 6-hour round at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The Brazilian achieved a time of 1: 09.743 in his # 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R, 0.389 seconds ahead of JDC-Miller Motorsports driver Sébastien Bourdais, also on Cadillac.
Harry Tincknell takes third place in his # 55 Mazda RT24-P. As a reminder, the Cadillacs have received an adjustment to the level of the Balance of Performances (HERE). Three Cadillacs finished the session in the top four, with the # 10 Wayne Taylor Racing of Renger van der Zande clocking 1: 10.482. Oliver Jarvis’s # 77 Mazda DPi finished in the top five overall.
Team Penske's two Acura ARX-05s did limited laps, with the # 7 finishing sixth at 1.1 seconds, while the # 6 only completed four laps after a turbo problem.
The # 18 Era Motorsport ORECA 07 was the fastest in LMP2.
The Porsches made a double in GTL thanks to Earl Bamber's 1: 17.552 with the # 912 911 RSR. The New Zealander is ahead of his teammate Fred Makowiecki (# 911) by 0.014 seconds. John Edwards was the third fastest in Team RLL's # 24 BMW M8 GTE, ahead of the two Chevrolet Corvette C8.Rs, which have won the last four races.
The GTD was dominated by Andy Lally’s # 44 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo of GRT Magnus Huracan, followed by Paul Miller Racing’s sister Lamborghini (# 48) and Turner Motorsport’s BMW M6 GT3 # 96.
