A short-circuit, a possible fire … Several hundred thousand vehicles of a BMW model will be recalled because of an operating problem.

German automaker BMW is recalling 430,000 3-series cars in Germany because of a fire hazard, Focus magazine reports, referring to a company spokesperson.

According to the media, a warning known since the end of 2017 on an increased risk of fire triggered the recall.

These are cars that left the workshops between July 2004 and June 2012 and whose code goes from E90 to E93.

The issues involved

The company representative clarified that the connection between the wire harness and the heating and air conditioning fan regulator can overheat due to friction. The possible consequences are thus a short circuit, a fusion of the contacts or, “in very rare cases”, a fire, even in the case of a parked vehicle, he adds.
