Smartphones upgrading to EMUI 11 can also be upgraded to HarmonyOS 2.0.
This week has been a week full of announcements. Huawei has unveiled the new version of its Android interface: EMUI 11. Google, for its part, has officially announced the arrival of Android 11 in final version. Finally, Huawei also unveiled the second version of its new OS HarmonyOS 2.0.
EMUI 11 and Harmony OS 2.0
First thing to remember: EMUI 11 is not based on Android 11 AOSP, the part open source from Android, Huawei has confirmed that is not the case. EMUI 11 is based on Android 10 and introduces around ten new features. This is the case of the new authorization management system, the improvement of floating windows, a richer Always On mode, MeeTime which arrives in France … it is a slight update of the Huawei interface which is proposed. mainly on high-end smartphones.
During the Huawei Developers Conference, the Chinese manufacturer also unveiled HarmonyOS 2.0. Huawei is preparing for independence from Android, and the first mobiles with HarmonyOS are scheduled for 2021. HarmonyOS is a distributed operating system, whose philosophy is similar to what Google plans to achieve with Fuchsia OS. In other words, it's an operating system that adapts to any device.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu took advantage of the release of HarmonyOS to unveil the OpenHarmony release schedule (the source code for HarmonyOS). HarmonyOS will therefore be an OS accessible to any manufacturer, just like Android.
HarmonyOS will be deployed on Huawei EMUI 11 smartphones
Android Authority had the opportunity to chat with Huawei following the announcement of HarmonyOS 2.0. We learn thatHuawei's new OS will be available as an update on EMUI 11 smartphones : "yes, devices with EMUI 11 can be upgraded to Harmony OS in the future".
No deployment date has been announced, but this optional update will be as easy to install as an EMUI 11 update, "with one click". This is good news for owners of a Huawei smartphone under EMUI 11 who will have the choice to take advantage of the first versions of the new Huawei OS, a deserved compensation given that these devices were not able to embed the Google Play Services. because of the American embargo.

Smartphones updated to EMUI 11 are mainly high-end smartphones announced after the boycott imposed by the United States.
We also imagine that this will be the case for the smartphones announced at the end of 2020, the Mate series, as well as the P series announced at the beginning of 2021.
