Mercedes and McLaren will start working together again in 2021, making ex-Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug happy.
The relationship between two of the biggest brands, Formula 1 lasted from 1995 to 2014 and will therefore be renewed, this time without the intervention of Ron Dennis, who had done everything at the time to obtain the German engine (at instead of the Peugeot V10).
"I am very satisfied with this renewed collaboration. I would like to see my friend Ron Dennis, who has retired since the brands split, get more recognition for what he has done for F1 and at McLaren. in particular," comments Haug.
"We worked together for a beautiful 15 years. The McLaren-Mercedes Silver Arrows with Mika Häkkinen, David Coulthard and later Lewis Hamilton were the epitome of pure quality in Formula 1."
The German hopes to see the same again in the years to come. McLaren already has the staff, Haug says.
"With Andreas Seidl at the helm, there is a good chance they will come back up the hill. With Ricciardo, McLaren will also have a driver who knows what the top step of the podium looks like and knows how to get there."
