Design: exuberance or discretion?
Yaris and Clio went in opposite directions. This fourth generation of the Japanese is evolving in depth. The Toyota has both a rounder and more muscular appearance, for example with well inflated fenders or a menacing air intake. The rear is a bit overloaded with choppy lights and a thick black headband.
Opposite, the Clio seems wiser. The Renault has evolved smoothly. Like a Golf, we find the silhouette of the old one, with small changes here and there, like the hooks under the optics. The whole seems to have reached a form of maturity.
Our choice: Clio, which exudes a form of elegance.
Interior presentation: both have made good progress
On board, we have one thing in common between the Yaris and the Clio: a clear improvement over the older generation. The most notable change in the Yaris is an improvement in the driving position, with a less vertical steering wheel. The finish is more neat, for example with padding on the top of the dashboard. But the presentation remains a little sad.
The Clio 5 has made its interior revolution. Presentation and finishing have taken a huge leap forward. Above all, the appearance is more technological thanks to a vertical 9.3-inch touchscreen. The details are finally neat, with for example air conditioning controls in chrome appearance. On board, the Clio finally has everything a great!
The Clio advances a trunk volume of 301 liters, against 286 liters for the Toyota.
Our choice: Clio, more polished and better finished.
Technique: a pioneer who does not fall asleep on her laurels
The duel between Clio and Yaris is therefore reinforced with the arrival of the hybrid at Renault. The Clio inaugurates a technology specific to the Losange, called E-Tech, with a 1.6 gasoline and two electric units. The power is 140 hp.
As for the Yaris, the hybrid engine has been completely revised, with a gasoline-electricity set of 116 hp. Toyota has corrected several faults of the Yaris hybrid: it is thus finally possible to drive at high speed in 100% electric and performance has been improved. It takes 8.1 seconds to go from 80 to 120 km / h, two seconds gained. But the Clio promises to be faster, with 6.9 seconds on this exercise.
The Toyota has also adopted a lithium-ion battery which allows better autonomy in electric. The Clio showed good skills thanks to its 1.2 kWh battery. Toyota still promises better fuel consumption and CO2 emissions values. It is true that the Yaris is less powerful, but the Japanese master his subject perfectly.
Our choice: Yaris, which remains a champion of the economy.
Equipment: a well equipped Yaris
The whole side of a big one is found in the endowment of the Clio, with from the base the emergency braking, the assistance to maintain in the way or the recognition of the panels. In comfort, we can have a 360 ° vision, a heated steering wheel, niche assistance… We are waiting for the arrival of digital instrumentation and semi-autonomous driving.
The Yaris, however, is not impressed, especially as it is very generous. Adaptive cruise control is standard from the base, as is the hands-free start access. New element of the Toyota: a central airbag, between the driver and the passenger. You can also have a head-up display.
The Toyota drives home the point with a better price / equipment ratio, starting under € 20,000, while the Clio hybrid starts at € 23,100.
Our choice: Yaris, better placed in price / equipment.
In the end: the balance tilts for the Yaris
Clio and Yaris surrender blow for blow. On the one hand, we have a Clio which seems more than ever the queen of versatility, being finally well finished and well equipped. Its hybrid technology seems well born.
But Toyota has a perfect understanding of the subject of hybridization. It corrects many defects of the Yaris, as well for the mechanics, the pleasure of driving and the interior presentation. In addition, the Yaris takes the advantage in the purchase with a better price / equipment ratio. And she has a secret boot to tip the scales in her favor: she is made in France.

The 1st Caradisiac auto show could not have taken place without the active support of the Cotentin agglomeration community and the Association des Amis du Hangar à Dirigeables d'Ecausseville. Many thanks to all those who facilitated the reception of Caradisiac in the airship hangar of Ecausseville, a unique historical monument in the world!
Our warmest thanks to the Prévost Group, which supported us from the very beginning in this adventure of organizing the 1st Caradisiac auto show. His experience has facilitated the management of the delivery flows of more than one hundred cars in the Hangar d'Ecausseville, nestled in the Normandy countryside!
