The first Bugatti customers and journalists can now drive the new Chiron Pur Sport, Bugatti making an appointment at the Bilster Berg circuit.
"Despite the incredible challenges we have been facing in recent months due to the containment linked to Covid-19, we have kept our schedule and can finally show our customers the sensations of driving the new Chiron Pur Sport", says Stephan Winkelmann , President of Bugatti. "You absolutely have to experience this hypersport for yourself, feel its peculiarities in order to be able to judge the remarkable work of the whole team. Our customers can push the Chiron Pure Sport straight to its limits on the Bilster Berg circuit and then convince themselves of its everyday suitability on public roads. "
With the Chiron Pur Sport, Bugatti is broadening its portfolio with a road and homologated hypersport car with unusual driving characteristics. The Chiron Pur Sport is rigorously calibrated to be agile, manoeuvrable and to have good driving performance; it is therefore particularly fast in bends. It thus becomes the ideal vehicle for pilots attracted by the exhilaration of turns within the limit of transverse dynamics.
Important changes in different areas
These are important changes in the areas of drive, chassis and aerodynamics that allowed this optimal result. With 1,500 hp and 1,600 newton-meters of torque, the 8.0-liter W16 engine spins 200 more revs and now reaches rated power between 6,700 and 6,900 revolutions, with a maximum switching speed of 6. 900 turns. Thanks to 15% shorter gear ratios, the Chiron Pur Sport accelerates even faster and more brutally than a Chiron2. It hits 0 to 100 in just 2.3 seconds instead of 2.4 seconds, and 0 to 200 now in 5.5 seconds instead of 6.1 seconds. Moreover, in 6th gear, it goes from 60 to 120 km / h in 3.4 seconds instead of 7.4. The top speed is electronically set to 350 km / h.
“We set this value because it allowed us to adapt the chassis and aerodynamics with even less compromise on agility and handling,” said Stefan Ellrott, development director at Bugatti. Thanks to a significantly more negative camber, harder springs and bearings, as well as Michelin tires with highly optimized grip, the Chiron Pur Sport offers even more handling and therefore more agility in the transverse acceleration. In order to incorporate the negative camber settings, engineers developed new ball joints and adapted all associated components. After many kilometers of testing, the engineers opted for harder springs which now offer the best compromise between sportiness, traction and driving comfort.
A flat front with a large front spoiler, wider air intakes, ventilation in the wheel arches, a longer diffuser and a fixed rear spoiler 1.90 m wide provide better downforce. In addition, the engineers reduced the weight of the new hypersport by 50 kilograms. "The Chiron Pur Sport devours the corners and accelerates faster thanks to a number of new developments, thus offering better downforce and exceptional road grip right up to its top speed," explains Stefan Ellrott.
Added to this is the new ESC-Sport + driving program. The ESC function activates much later and allows for more slip and thus, a controlled slip and a greater slip angle. Drivers know how to step on the accelerator to drive the Chiron Pur Sport in spectacular fashion. “With the Chiron Pur Sport, we have developed an extremely precise hypersport for circuits and country roads. It guarantees maximum driving pleasure on all roads. I am very happy that the first Bugatti customers can now share this experience with us, ”says Stefan Winkelmann.
The production version of the Chiron Pur Sport, limited to 60 units, priced at three million euros (net), is now produced in Molsheim, France.
