The complicated relationship between Sebastian Vettel and his team is no secret. Having finished 7th in the Spanish Grand Prix, the quadruple world champion is finding it increasingly difficult to hide his frustration with Scuderia Ferrari, with whom he has always dreamed of playing. According to information relayed by the Italian sports daily The Gazzetta dello Sport, Vettel should soon sign a brand new contract with Aston Martin, officially consummating a divorce announced last May.
The end of an epic?
Sebastian Vettel is a far cry from his glory days. The one who won all the titles between 2010 and 2013 (champion four times in a row) is now unrecognizable. The German driver is in 11th place overall for the season posted on the official Formula1 competition website, having collected just 16 points in 6 races. More and more experts believe that Vettel could, for the very first time in 12 years, be absent from the final top 5 at the end of the year (arriving in 8th position in 2008). On the eve of the Belgian Grand Prix, bookmakers even evaluated his odds of victory at 101.0 only on the Betway sports betting site (figure of 22 August). The 33-year-old has been sorely lacking in pace and confidence since the start of the season, and this is largely due to his strained relationship with his future ex-team, who seems to be abandoning him more and more.

Finishing only 12th in the 70th Anniversary GP on August 9, the German seemed uneasy behind the wheel of his Ferrari on the Silverstone circuit. Post-race analysis revealed that the chassis of his single-seater was faulty due to impact to a vibrator, but according to the Scuderia this would not have affected his race. It was with a new chassis that Vettel entered the Spanish Grand Prix which arrived the weekend after. There too, the tension was palpable, this time in terms of communication: as at Silverstone, Vettel complained on the radio about the strategy chosen by his pit vis-à-vis his tires.
Impressive work from Seb to nurse his tires home 🎧 🙂

A shattered dream at Ferrari
Maybe his biggest mistake was trying to emulate his idol, Michael Schumacher, by going to Ferrari? The one nicknamed "Baby Schumi" joined the Scuderia in 2015 in the hope of reclaiming his lost title to Lewis Hamilton the season before, and to resume his streak where it left off a year ago. earlier to 4 consecutive wins at Red Bull. A goal he has never managed to achieve with the famous Maranello team. Only positive point: he won the 42nd success of his career in Singapore, overtaking Ayrton Senna and climbing on the podium of the most victorious drivers in Formula 1.
Things started to turn sour the next year: no wins throughout the 2016 season and 18 consecutive months without any success. Despite climbing the podium the next two years, 2019 marked the end of his collaboration with Ferrari when he was passed by his team-mate, Charles Leclerc. Today, the Scuderia only have eyes for the Monegasque, especially since the formalization of the end of the collaboration between the Italian team and Vettel.

It is a Sebastian Vettel more demotivated than ever who started this new 2020 season, not hiding his feeling of abandonment and overwhelmed by his promising young teammate. There are now several rumors circulating about his future and the name of the team that could perhaps give new impetus to the fallen champion. In pole position we find Aston Martin. The team running under the name BWT Racing Point Formula One Team seems to have already started discussions with the quadruple world champion and the F1 Actu news website even thinks it is only a matter of days before the news is made official. It remains to be seen who of Sergio Pérez or Lance Stroll will give way to the German driver.
The end of the 2020 Formula 1 championship will therefore go hand in hand with the disappointing Ferrari years of Sebastian Vettel. Will he be able to find the motivation it takes to end on a high note before turning a new leaf in his career?
