Faster than Bugatti and Koenigsegg. SSC Tuarara sets new speed record – 45 Seconds

According to an American television channel, SSC Tuatara has become the new holder of the world speed record for production cars, breaking the official and unofficial values of Koenigsegg and Bugatti. If confirmed, it will have been clocked at over 490 km / h.

The SSC Tuatara must have won the title of the fastest production car in the world, according to KPVTM-TV from Las Vegas, breaking the new speed record on the same stretch of road used by Koenigsegg to reach the previous maximum in 2017.

This station says that SSC will make an official announcement soon. However, it is not known if the Tuatara had a better time than the Koenigsegg or the Bugatti.

Officially, the title of the fastest production car in the world entered in the Guinness Book of Records is held by the Koenigsegg Agera RS with a speed of 447,237 km / h. This record was reached in 2017 on the same stretch of road on State Route 160 in southern Nevada that SSC uses.

For the world record to be valid, the car must make two passes in opposite directions to mitigate the effects of cross and tailwinds.

The Agera RS hit 457,054 km / h one way, but the average speed in both directions caused the speed to drop to 447,237 km / h.

With Bugatti in sight

As for the Bugatti, the 482 km / h barrier was crossed in September 2019 with a version of the Chiron which would eventually become the Super Sport 300+. He reached 490.367 km / h on the Ehra-Lessien test circuit in Germany.

However, only one pass was made because the dust deposited on the runway surface presented a potential hazard if driven in the opposite direction at such a high speed.

A video shows the car reaching 490.367 km / h, but the one-way crossing remains the unofficial and controversial speed record. Interestingly, Bugatti limits the top speed of the Super Sport 300+ “series” to 442 km / h.

Everything indicates that the record SSC wants to break is that of Bugatti, which has been singled out as Tuatara's biggest competitor since its official launch. The hypercar was designed to exceed 480 km / h, but predictions estimate that its top speed is 502 km / h.

To achieve these values, it has a power line that develops an output of 1,750 hp (1,305 kW), thanks to a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with flat crankshaft.

With a weight of just 1247 kg and an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.279, the SSC Tuatara seems to be gathering arguments to equal Bugatti's official record, in addition to Koenigsegg's official record.
