Google presented an update to its Google Photos app on Android as part of its online conference. On the program: even smarter suggestions, a better-built interface to access changes and a new Portrait Light feature deployed on the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5.
The American multinational Google held its virtual conference during which several products were formalized. From the new Nest Audio (replacing the Google Home) to the new Google TV via the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. The Mountain View firm also took the opportunity to induct several new products affecting the world of photography, in which she excels.
The Google Photos mobile application – Android only – welcomes some new features presented in more detail in a blog post. New smart suggestions based on machine learning are now available with just one click thanks to a dedicated tab. These so-called suggestions affect brightness, contrast, and the effects of a portrait mode.
According to Google, new suggestions will appear on the app and Pixel devices in the coming months to help users enhance landscapes or sunsets, for example. The parameters to precisely modify the brightness, contrast, saturation or even heat, will benefit from a better layout, with easier and faster access, assures the brand.
Better brightness management
The firm from across the Atlantic also presented a new feature that will soon be rolled out to the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5, but also to other Pixel devices in the future. Portrait Light, named after it, uses machine learning to make faces brighter. The user will be able to adjust the angle of light and the degree of brightness in post-production, directly through Google Photos.
Portrait Light can also be used well on photos in portrait or classic mode, and on snapshots captured in the past or at the same time. The new features of Google Photos are currently being rolled out to Android devices.
