America’s favorite donut and Homer Simpson’s cutie.
- 450 grams of flour
- 20 grams of fresh cubed baker’s yeast (or 7 grams of dry yeast)
- 8 centiliters of lukewarm water
- An egg
- 60 grams of soft butter
- 50 grams of sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 15 centiliters of milk
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- A teaspoon of vanilla extract
- oil for frying the donuts
First rehydrate the yeast in lukewarm water to activate it.
Put lemon juice in the milk to make a curd which will have the property of adding fermentation.
Add the flour, sugar, baking powder and vanilla extract. Mix lightly.
Add the egg, milk and butter cut into small pieces. Mix until you obtain a homogeneous ball of dough.
Knead for about 5 minutes. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for an hour and a half in the oven off. The dough should double in size.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 cm. Cut the donuts using a cookie cutter. If you don’t have a cookie cutter, take a glass about 7 cm in diameter. Then make a small hole of two centimeters in the middle.
Arrange on a floured baking sheet. Cover. Let sit for another 30 minutes. The donuts will swell.
Heat the frying bath to 170/180 degrees.
Dip the donuts. They take on a beautiful golden color quite quickly. Turn them for even cooking. In less than a minute, you’re done.
Dispose of them on absorbent paper. Enjoy them coated with chocolate, sugar or icing.
