Involved in the accident on Route 117 which claimed the life of Mathieu Gagné in February 2019, in Cadillac, Jesse Bibeau is formally accused of having had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit within two hours of driving his vehicle.
The 37-year-old was arrested shortly after the accident and then released.
While the accident resulted in the death of Mathieu Gagné, Jesse Bibeau will not face one count of impaired driving causing death.
Asked why this charge was ultimately not brought, the Deputy Chief Prosecutor for Criminal and Penal Prosecutions, Ms. Véronic Picard, said she was unable to meet the burden of proof.
Note that the accident involving Jesse Bibeau occurred at 4:40 a.m., near Cadillac, on February 15, 2019.
Route 117 must have been closed for almost 10 hours that day. Since the Sûreté du Québec did not have a reconstitutionist available in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the police force had to call an investigator from Gatineau for reinforcement in order to proceed with the investigation.
