The Cadillac region is known for its landscapes but we often forget the work of the men and women who shape the hillsides. Their commitment allows them to produce high quality and very varied wines for the pleasure of amateurs.
The year 2020 will be a year apart. Wearing a mask, barrier gestures, the harvest ended in good conditions. This vintage will remain unique in its kind.
The 2020 vintage, a hot vintage in color and temperature
We take a look back at the climate, which did not spare us with frost in spring, then episodes of hail in April and August in areas located to the south of the appellation. Diseases such as mildew, cluster greens… that our winegrowers have once again managed better.
Lack of rain and drought this summer from July to August, a lot of leaf loss.
Veraison took place early. However, the hot weather blocked maturities. The rains of August 15 helped revive
of maturity. Overall, the harvest was 5 to 10 days ahead, depending on the area.
The month of September was scorching and caused drying out of the grapes and in particular the very sensitive Merlots. The harvests were a little rushed because of the strongly rising degrees due to temperatures above 30 ° C.
For the sweet white wines, the grapes reached perfect maturity in September, which allowed us to wait quietly for botrytis. The harvest ended around October 20.
The red fermentation took place very quickly in 4 and 5 days.
A special year, one of a kind
The dry whites harvested in mid-August on our slopes are of high quality in finesse with aromas of exotic citrus fruits. Tonic wines despite the high temperatures.
The reds of the AOC Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux present a good concentration with aromas of ripe fruits: red fruits and black fruits. We can find them a little rustic during the first tastings but a nice freshness emerges. The colors are very intense. The winegrowers' blends will allow very balanced wines to be produced without too many high degrees.
Today, the key words that emerge from our tastings are: voluptuousness, volume in the mouth, supple, good drinkability, clear blackcurrant fruits, spices, violet.
The mellow sweet wines (Première Côtes de Bordeaux) present citrus notes with a nice balance and acidity. A modern wine profile. The sweet, syrupy wines (Cadillac) have a slightly fuller palate with aromas of grapefruit and orange fruit paste.
Yields are very low this year. You will therefore have to reserve your vintages quickly. Unlike other vintages, it is difficult to compare it in terms of acidity, PH and degrees.
A unique vintage, which our winegrowers knew how to manage both during the harvest and vinification period. Let's wait for the first Cuvées.
