Rumors of the release of a more affordable Bugatti have been circulating on the net for several years. A few months ago, it seemed that the French manufacturer was finally ready to explore this possibility, but ultimately things have changed, and Bugatti's second model will have to wait.
According to Bloomberg, the automaker postponed its decision. Bugatti prefers to wait until next month to decide, of course this has to do with the coronavirus crisis.
"We mentioned the arrival of a second model within Bugatti", commented Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of the brand. "This has been blocked due to the coronavirus crisis; we are not talking about what is to come".
Last July, we learned that the Volkswagen group to which Bugatti belongs was prioritizing liquidity to face this unprecedented crisis. It is too early to tell if this new information means the project is canceled or simply delayed.
Considering the situation, it is surprising that Bugatti is about to register its "best year to date", according to Winkelmann who did not provide further details on the company's results for 2020. More importantly, the manufacturer of Molsheim plans next year "in all serenity" thanks to a good number of pre-orders – roughly, between 70 and 80% of the production planned for 2021 has already been sold.
