Our 'real consumption test' section is now so rich in testing that even the BMW 320d Touring and its excellent fuel consumption 4.00 l / 100 km (25 km / l) fails to score the record in its category.
With a very low cost of € 20.87 to travel 360 km between Rome and Forli, the new BMW 3 Series Touring and its 190 hp diesel engine is in fact one of the least fuel-efficient family cars. However, some family do better, let's see which ones.
The less greedy breaks
In our fuel consumption ranking between Rome and Forlì, the 4.00 l / 100 km of the BMW 320d Touring are at the top of the ranking. Higher still, we find the Peugeot 508 BlueHDi 130 and Opel Insignia Sports Tourer 1.6 CDTi 136 hp that do better with only 3.80 l / 100 km (26.3 km / l). Of course, these models are less powerful and are not premiums, but their size is equivalent, so they are vehicles of the same segment.
The undisputed queen is the Mercedes E220 d Break which only consumes 3.60 l / 100 km (27.7 km / l), while behind the BMW, there is the Volvo V60 D4 Geartronic with its 4.35 l / 100 km (22.9 km / l).
Driving is always a pleasure
The BMW 320d Touring under test is full of equipment, options and driving aids. Our coach has the M Sport package, an automatic gearbox, 19 "wheels, laser headlights, a panoramic roof, head-up display, and more.
This break offers plenty of space for loading and allows you to travel in complete relaxation. It is sporty and the finishes are of good level. The driving pleasure is intact, the 320d Touring is dynamic, only the Alfa Romeo Giulia can match it.
A break that is not very thirsty
This BMW 320d Touring M Sport has low fuel consumption in all driving conditions, starting with a mixed urban / extra-urban use, where the German has recorded an average of only 5.5 l / 100 km (18.1 km / l). Even on the highway, consumption does not exceed 6.0 l / 100 km (16.6 km / l).
Of course, the consumption is higher in the traffic of Rome, where the 320d Touring displays a consumption not really excellent of 9.8 l / 100 km (10.2 km / l). As far as extreme testing is concerned, the consumption is 3.7 l / 100 km (27.0 km / l) in economy driving and up to 28.4 l / 100 km (3.5 km / l) accelerating to the maximum in climbs.
