Site photographers Coach surprised, in the middle of a test, a BMW series 3 of the current generation with regulatory stickers " Electric Test Vehicle "

This test version is very similar to the currently marketed version, the G20, apart from the lack of an exhaust outlet at the rear and some stylistic tweaks at the front spoiler and headlights.

An electric version during the next restyling

At the moment, however, BMW is not communicating about any new electric car. However, this series 3, adorned with its stickers " Electric Vehicle Test "Clearly indicates that the Bavarian firm is in the process of developing an electrified variant on this chassis.

It is therefore likely that this version discovered by Coach either a preparation for the restyling of the series 3, which should take place halfway through his commercial career, or in 2023.

In addition, if no name has been given either, it probably won't be i3, already used on the brand for its electric marketed since 2013 – although this model should have disappeared from the catalog by then.

Electric motorization of the i4 or the iX3?

BMW is also unlikely to choose the i4's 530 horsepower, which would then exceed the power of the current M3 and M4 by 50 horsepower.

The choice of the manufacturer will most certainly be on the engine of the future iX3 SUV, and the upcoming electric series 3 could then offer 286 horsepower, keeping the tradition of the brand's rear-wheel drive sedans.

At the autonomy level, it is possible, subject to being able to integrate it on the 3 series, that the model embeds the same battery pack as the iX3, that is 74 kWh which could guarantee a autonomy of at least 440 km in cycle WLTP.
