BMW is launching the second generation of the 4 Series at the end of the year. The coupé, which originates from the 3 Series, is characterized by a strong and hitherto unseen design. Here are the first images of the test drive of the BMW 4 Series Coupe.
Customers of the 4 Series Coupe wanted a car with a more pronounced look than the 3 Series from which it derives. BMW meets their expectations with a second generation with an original design. The 4.77 m long coupe adopts an XXL grille that descends from the bottom of the hood to the bumper. Never seen before in the range.
The silhouette, composed of a smooth drop of the roof and very wide rear wings, is similar to that of the big sister, the 8 Series. Note that the odds are clearly increasing. The length increases by 13 cm, the rear tracks widen while the center of gravity decreases (-2 cm).
The Series 4 does not intend to make up the figure since the range will always be overseen by a 374 hp M440i Xdrive inline six, equipped with micro-hybridization. This variant receives an M Sport limited-slip differential. The lock generated by an electric motor limits the speed differences between the inside and outside rear wheel when cornering. This improves traction and driving stability while allowing the driver to exit corners faster, BMW says.
The remainder of the offering consists of a 184PS (420i) 2.0 four-cylinder petrol engine and of course the well-known 420d, a 2.0 190PS mild hybrid four-cylinder. These three units have an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 420d offers optional xDrive all-wheel drive. A 430d six-cylinder diesel 286 hp will be launched in 2021. It will take at least € 48,000 to offer you the services of the new 4 Series available in dealerships from October.
