autoFerrari Breadvan 2021: The rebirth of an extraordinary model
If the Ferrari Breadvan 2021 amazes with its atypical design, it is a question of paying tribute to one of the craziest creations in the history of the Italian manufacturer.
Little sister of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan created in a single, unique and never sold. Its unique story is based on a dispute between Enzo Ferrari and three employees of the Prancing Horse, who at the time denounced the hold of Laura Dominicata Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari’s wife, on the management of the company and the choices strategic vehicles in production.
Laid off, the three former employees were then recruited at Scuderia Serenissima by Count Volpi, which deeply annoyed Enzo Ferrari, who then canceled an order comprising two Ferrari 250 GTOs scheduled to run during the 24 hours of Le Mans. Subsequently, the Volpi Account and the three employees developed this astonishing station wagon, which will subsequently be entered in the race and will be the vestige of an astonishing piece of automotive history.
This new edition, produced by the Dutch coachbuilder Niels van Roij Design, takes up the spirit of the 1962 model while incorporating the mechanics of the 550 Maranello: a powerful atmospheric 5.5L V12 developing a power of 485 horsepower. Many exterior elements have been placed to recall the original model, such as the two air vents on the hood, the bubble revealing the engine, but also the circular headlights and an absolutely recognizable rear.
The interior has also been designed to pay tribute to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan while adding a touch of modernity, with bucket seats in blue alcantara, aerators surrounded by aluminum or by the straps of door, already used in the 1962 model.
Unique, this new achievement will not, like its big sister, be marketed. However, find out through the photo gallery below.
