" The idea of combining sportsmanship and maximum practicality in everyday life may seem far-fetched to some, but in our eyes, the High Performance Avant is one of the best concepts that we have proposed in 25 years of history Said Oliver Hoffmann, managing director of Audi Sport GmbH. " Longtime best seller,Audi RS 4 Avant contributes significantly to the success of Audi Sport GmbH ".
We suggest you read our test, Audi RS4 Avant, the evolution of the species, to find out what we think of this machine.
More muscle… in style
The front end of Audi's sports station wagon has been completely overhauled. We note a wider and flatter Singleframe grille a bit like its big sisters RS 6 Before and RS 7 Sportback. It also has a three-dimensional honeycomb structure in shiny black. The shape of the LED headlights has been redesigned with a dark lens. Obviously in Audi modern as it is, the station wagon offers (optional) Matrix LED headlights. Design elements in shiny black, placed right next to the headlights, amplify the width effect of the new RS 4 Avant.
The glossy black, matt aluminum and carbon design packs include specific additions to the underbody sconces, the exterior mirror housings and the front and rear bumpers. The badges RS can be removed for a more sober look. As standard, the roof bars are available in matt aluminum. The RS spoiler and diffuser as well as the chrome exhaust pipes of the RS exhaust system bring a unique finishing touch to the vehicle.
The optional RS sport exhaust system, with black exhaust tailpipes, creates a very sporty sound experience. The driver can opt for a sporty or muffled sound thanks to the Audi drive select driving mode selection system.
Full traction power
Under the engine hood, the RS4 Avant still offers its V6 2.9 TFSI bi-turbo which produces a trifle of 450 horsepower for an impressive torque of 600 Nm between 1,900 and 5,000 rpm. TheAudi RS 4 Avant is thus able to go from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4.1 seconds. With the optional RS dynamic pack, the maximum speed, electronically controlled, goes from 250 to 280 km / h.
To transmit the cavalry on the tarmac, Ingolstadt engineers chose to trust a 8-speed tiptronic gearbox which transmits the power of 2.9 TFSI to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. In normal driving, the system delivers more power to the rear axle. Its purely mechanical central differential sends 60% of the torque to the rear axle and 40% to the front axle. In the event of a slip on one axle, the majority of the power is automatically and quickly transferred to the other (up to 70% at the front and 85% at the rear).
The quattro sports differential with adjustment RS A specific option provides an even more dynamic response when accelerating through corners. It distributes the torque between the rear wheels in an active and targeted manner, thus improving traction, stability and dynamics. When the driver turns or accelerates in a turn, the torque is mainly directed towards the rear wheel located outside the curve: the car is literally pressed into the curve, eliminating any risk, even minimal, of understeer. If the vehicle survives, the sport differential stabilizes it by transferring the torque to the wheel from inside the curve.
A simple but connected cockpit.
The new Audi RS 4 Avant is more of a monochrome genre in its interior. Black reigns supreme although slightly surmounted by LED lights which emphasize the contours of the doors as well as the central console. Besides, the pilot will have the choice between 30 different colors to brighten up the interior.
The 10.1-inch MMI touch screen is the command center for the new operating system. It is located in the center of the dashboard and slightly tilted towards the driver. The driver can use the RS display to display different items: temperatures, centrifugal forces in "g" and information on tire pressure and temperature.
Navigation on board the new RS 4 Avant is now even more versatile and user-friendly. Wallet Audi connect and Audi connect plus includes a range of online services, such as services Car-to-X, which rely on the combined intelligence of the Audi fleet.
Behind the wheel is the virtual cockpit ofAudi. This is accompanied by an optional head-up display which also provides specific RS information, including the bright gear change display.
Driver can activate both modes RS1 and RS2 in Audi drive select directly via a new button " RS MODE »On the RS sport multifunction flat steering wheel. Pressing this button automatically opens screens specific to RS models in Audi’s virtual cockpit. The new aluminum shift paddles are much larger than on previous models. In addition to the illuminated steering wheel and rocker panels, the optional RS sport seats with a dimpled pattern and the gear lever also bear the RS emblem.
